About the Project

Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023. It is now transitioning from open pit to underground block caving-an innovative method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transition will create new, technically advanced roles and opportunities to work alongside global experts. We are committed to partnering with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers long-term social, environmental, and economic benefits.

Your Impact

In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting safe, stable, and efficient underground mining operations. Your contributions will directly influence ground stability, risk management, and compliance with geotechnical standards during a major operational transition.

You will help ensure geotechnical risks are identified, assessed, mitigated, and continuously monitored, supporting the long-term success and sustainability of the Red Chris operation.

As a Part of Our Team, You Will
  • Oversee geotechnical activities to ensure ground stability and compliance with internal and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate closely with Technical Services, Mining, and Operations teams, and the Newmont Corporate Geotechnical team.
  • Conduct geotechnical assessments and risk evaluations for underground and surface works (box-cut portal)
  • Review and assess mine designs to ensure geotechnical integrity
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret geotechnical data and monitoring results
  • Prepare clear, accurate geotechnical reports and technical recommendations
  • Optimize geotechnical systems and processes, with a focus on efficiency and scalability
  • Support quality control processes in line with Newmont standards
  • Provide technical guidance, direction and leadership to junior geotechnical team members
  • Oversee consultants and manage scope of work for budgetary and schedule compliance, e.g. design packages and core logging programs
  • Actively promote safe work practices and stop unsafe work when identified
Requirements for Success in This Role
  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Strong foundation in geotechnical principles and risk mitigation practices
  • Experience with rock mass characterization, geotechnical monitoring, and data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to assess geotechnical risk and implement mitigation measures
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations and quality control processes in mining environments
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to translate technical findings into practical guidance
  • Commitment to Newmont’s values, safety culture, and continuous improvement
Your Work Environment

You will be based at the Red Chris Block Cave Project, working in a high-altitude underground mining setting. The role calls for adaptability, resilience, and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and collaborative workplace within a dynamic project environment.

This is a fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) position, operating on a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation. While on site, you’ll enjoy comfortable accommodations designed to support your wellbeing, including balanced meals prepared by our culinary team, access to TV and Wi-Fi, a fully equipped on-site gym, and a range of recreational activities.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$CAD 110,160 - CAD 144,585 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
