PowerBuilder Developer to support a business-critical legacy system through ongoing sustainment, bug fixes, and small enhancements. The immediate focus will be maintaining system stability, resolving defects, and ensuring reliable day-to-day operations.


4 days in office in Calgary

Must-Haves

  • 5+ years of hands-on PowerBuilder development experience supporting business critical legacy applications
  • Strong experience supporting and enhancing legacy application environments
  • Proven experience with bug fixes, production support, sustainment, and issue resolution
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, or similar)
  • Experience with PowerBuilder DataWindow, stored procedures, queries, and backend integrations
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues and deliver stable fixes quickly
  • Experience within Oil and Gas industry preferrable within Pipeline industry
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with business and technical stakeholders

Nice-to-Haves

  • Exposure to application modernization, migration, or transformation initiatives
  • Experience with APIs, middleware, or systems integration
  • Knowledge of .NET, Java, web technologies, or cloud platforms
  • Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery environments
  • Experience documenting legacy systems and translating business logic into future-state requirements
  • Experience mentoring junior developers or supporting knowledge transfer

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing sustainment and support for a business-critical legacy system
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production defects and user-reported issues
  • Deliver small enhancements, change requests, and maintenance releases
  • Maintain system stability, performance, and reliability in day-to-day operations
  • Analyze existing PowerBuilder code and recommend improvements where appropriate
  • Collaborate with business users, analysts, and technical teams to understand requirements and prioritize fixes
  • Support release management, testing, and deployment activities
  • Contribute to documentation of existing functionality, workflows, and technical dependencies
  • Assist with planning and execution of future modernization initiatives as priorities evolve
  • Provide technical insight to help transition the platform toward future-state technologies
