Intermediate Geotechnical Facility Engineer to support design, testing, construction, and performance for Tailings Dam in Fort McMurray

Our Calgary client is looking for an Intermediate Geotechnical Facility Engineer to support design, testing, construction, and performance for Tailings Dam in Fort McMurray

Must-Haves:

• 5+ years as a Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineer supporting Oil Sands operations
• Strong understanding of geotechnical design, testing, construction, and performance
• Familiarity with geotechnical theories (e.g., seepage, slope stability)
• Knowledge of lab testing methods and geotechnical instrumentation (e.g., piezometers, inclinometers)
• Proficiency with design software (e.g., Microstation, MineScape, AutoCAD, Vulcan)

Nice to Have:

• P.Eng or provincial equivalent (or ability to obtain within 1 year)

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Engineer of Record (EOR) in managing geotechnical risks related to tailings facilities and earthen structures
• Conduct and review field inspections and ensure compliance with design specifications
• Review daily construction plans, field monitoring reports, and instrumentation results
• Assist with setting instrumentation trigger levels and planning remedial actions
• Ensure accurate data entry and management in geotechnical databases
• Plan and oversee instrumentation installation and testing, supporting the Drilling Execution team
• Prepare Annual Construction & Performance Reports and regulatory documentation
• Maintain the OMS Manual and Emergency Response Plan
• Coordinate and support Dam Safety Reviews and Geotechnical Review Board presentations
• Create, review, and issue design and construction drawings
