AVP, Portfolio Data & Analytics

The AVP, Portfolio Data & Analytics is an experienced analytics leader responsible for developing and driving the data strategy for the Bank to enable our teams to optimize portfolio performance. The team’s mandate includes all Bank portfolio reporting and analysis, business casing and financial forecasting on behalf of all business lines, and driving the insights to fuel portfolio optimization, enhanced risk management, and improved decision-making.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in data science, analytics, and portfolio management, coupled with a strong understanding of the financial services landscape and a passion for building data-driven products that solve complex business challenges.

Position Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Manage a high performing team of data scientists, analysts, and data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration

  • Model the values and culture of the Bank as part of the Manulife Bank leadership team

  • Lead and inspire the team to achieve business objectives, promoting a culture of excellence, teamwork, and high performance.

  • Drive a culture of continuous learning, growth, and accountability, creating an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and professional development.

  • Engage with regulators, auditors, and other external stakeholders to demonstrate the robustness of the bank’s data and analytics practices

Data Strategy & Governance

  • Lead the design and implementation of the bank’s portfolio data strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and regulatory requirements

  • Drive innovation in data analytics to improve portfolio optimization and performance forecasting

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to translate business goals into data-driven strategies

  • Establish data steward responsibilities for the Bank.

  • Lead initiatives to enhance data governance, data quality, and compliance with regulatory requirements in partnership with the 1B, Head of Governance and Controls

  • Promote best practices in data management, ensuring that analytics and reporting systems leverage clean, consistent, and integrated data.

  • Document all sources of data and create a data dictionary.

  • Drive efficient and effective self-serve use of tools across the Bank to inform business decisions.

  • Partner with Global Data team to drive Bank Data Strategy.

  • Partner with Delivery & Technology team to execute the Bank Data Strategy.

Portfolio Analytics & Forecasting

  • Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and scalability of portfolio performance analytics and reporting systems

  • Serve as key advisor to senior executives on portfolio data and analytics, presenting actionable insights and recommendations

  • Design & distribute daily, monthly, and quarterly reporting to the Bank Leadership team.

  • Oversee development of business cases for each business line as required

  • Responsible for product/financial forecasting as inputs into Finance for planning purposes

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years' experience in financial services.

  • Advanced degree in Data Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related field

  • Proficiency with analytics tools such as Python, R, SQL, and experience with big data platforms as well as key self-serve tools such as Power BI

  • Product knowledge and P&L management experience required.

  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs, market trends and customer demands.

  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization

Salary range is expected to be between

$123,400.00 CAD - $229,300.00 CAD
