The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, contract (12 months) Senior Communications Advisor, Research Communications to lead the development and delivery of strategic communications, knowledge translation, and storytelling that highlight CAMH’s world-class research and impact.
Reporting to the Manager, Research Communications within Public Affairs, with matrix reporting to and Research Operations, Services and Support (ROSS) leadership, this position will play a key role in shaping and executing integrated communications strategies that amplify CAMH’s research excellence, build reputation, and engage internal and external audiences. The successful candidate will be a strategic and creative communicator who thrives in a research-driven environment, capable of translating complex scientific concepts into accessible, engaging stories and visuals across a number of platforms that inspire action and understanding.
The successful candidate will provide biomedical and research communications support across CAMH, developing written scientific content, visuals, and messaging that make complex findings accessible and compelling. They will also support research-specific event coordination and communications for Research Institute initiatives. The role requires a strategic, detail-oriented communicator who can manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining close collaboration with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Post-secondary education in communications, journalism, public relations, science or other related areas combined with at least five years of experience in communications, knowledge translation, or related role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in a research or academic health sciences setting is an asset. Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills for multiple formats and audiences. Proficiency with digital communications tools (e.g., WordPress, Mailchimp, Hootsuite), design and editing software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), and photo/video production tools. Graduate degree or certificate in biomedical communications would be an asset.
