Job Overview
The Director plays a central role in managing a commercial technology portfolio, supporting new client origination, and coordinating with partners across the Commercial Bank to deliver an integrated client experience. The role combines relationship development, credit leadership, transaction structuring, and strategic analysis, contributing directly to BMO’s growth in the Canadian innovation economy.
Job Description
- Prepare credit recommendations, including risk assessment, deal structuring, and analysis of financial and operational information for new and existing technology clients
- Directly manage annual reviews, interim reviews, and portfolio monitoring requirements for a complex set of clients
- Partner closely with Origination Managing Directors and Directors to support prospecting, early opportunity assessment, and development of New Business Committee materials
- Identify cross‑bank opportunities in treasury, FX, capital markets, and other commercial products to broaden client relationships
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Analysts and Associates on deal analysis, underwriting standards, and portfolio management
- Participate in sales activities such as pitch preparation, prospect research, and development of client files for further action
- Act as a key client point of contact on credit‑related matters and support strong ongoing relationship management
- Ensure adherence to internal control, compliance, audit, and regulatory standards; contribute to training and process improvements
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure alignment with bank credit policies and risk appetite
- Apply sound judgment and creativity to solve complex or ambiguous problems in the innovation sector
- Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
- Typically 8-10+ years of relevant experience in commercial lending, technology finance, corporate banking, or related fields; post‑secondary degree in business, finance, economics, or a related discipline
- Strong financial, analytical, and credit skills; ability to assess complex borrowing needs of high‑growth technology companies.
- Professional designations (CFA, CPA, CBV, or related) considered an asset
- Experience in contract negotiations with clients and legal counsel
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage strong client relationships
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage ambiguity and adapt to evolving market conditions
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
