Job Description Chiropractor

A Chiropractor is a healthcare professional who diagnoses, treats and works to prevent issues related to bones, joints, muscles and the neuromusculoskeletal system. They can treat everything from joint pain to misaligned spines through corrective manipulations and other physical treatments. They can practice in private clinics specifically for chirpordery, or in hospitals, general clinics and other healthcare facilities in association with healthcare professionals in other disciplines. A Chiropractor can treat both acute injuries and long-term chronic conditions. Each patient will have unique needs, and it is up to the Chiropractor to design a custom plan of treatment to address their symptoms.

5 Requirements to be Chiropractor

  1. Three years of undergraduate study at the university level
  2. A four year degree at the accredited Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) or the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, or similar institution in another country
  3. Complete 1200+ hours of hands-on training and learning
  4. Become a registered member of a provincial regulatory organization (i.e. College of Chiropractors of Ontario)
  5. Possess strong chiropractic knowledge and communication skills

What does a Chiropractor do ?

A Chiropractor will spend their day meeting with patients in order to diagnose and treat specific physical conditions. As every patient will have a unique history and symptoms, a Chiropractor needs to be well versed in a wide range of chiropractic techniques and treatments. As with other healthcare practitioners, there is a great deal of one-on-one interaction with patients and clients, in addition to some administrative tasks. Typical duties and tasks of a Chiropractor include:

  • Meeting and diagnoses new patients
  • Designing custom treatments and therapies
  • Treating regular patients with chronic conditions
  • Discussing family history and other factors with patients
  • Researching conditions and symptoms to make the correct diagnoses
  • Learning about new chiropractic techniques and therapeutic innovations
  • Performing administrative tasks, including filing paperwork, insurance and records
