Community Development Advisor

JOB SUMMARY :

Under the supervision of the manager and with the support of the health promotion coordinator or health promoter for their zone, this person works in partnership with their local communities. As part of the Public Health promotion teams, community development advisors repond to needs primarily related to the determinants of health. With community partners, interdisciplinary teams, and municipalities, they develop strategies designed to address the health needs identified by the community, such as through community health needs assessments (CHNAs), the Regional Resilience Committees’ action plans, the Regional Service Commissions’ (RSCs) strategic plans, and Public Health’s priority areas for action. These strategies aim to increase the community’s ability to promote better health for the population in the zone.

The Community Development Advisor:

  • Plays a unifying and facilitating role within the community, through meetings, to stimulate community engagement towards a common goal: meeting the health needs of the population.
  • Builds connections and partnerships in their zone, within Vitalité Health Network and at the provincial level.
  • Works with community members to build a community support network and health-supporting environments.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline in health or social sciences;
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain such certification;
  • At least three years’ experience in a community setting, demonstrating the following skills and competencies:
    • Good knowledge of the demographics and health ne;eds specific to the communities in their zone;
    • Awareness of the impact of health determinants
    • Thorough work and use of methods that foster the engagement and participation of individuals and communities;
    • Ability to develop and maintain community partnerships;
    • Building and maintenance of good interpersonal relationships through leadership skills;
    • Good organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize and manage both time and workload efficiently;
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
    • Initiative, creativity, autonomy, positive attitude, and flexibility;
  • Valid driver's licence;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Physical ability to perform assigned tasks;
  • Good work history (performance and attendance);
  • Adherence to professional ethics principles, the Network’s management philosophy, and organizational values;
  • Adherence to Vitalité Health Network’s confidentiality rules;
