Description
Department mission
To ensure the longevity and proper functioning of all public facilities, equipment, and buildings, in order to support sustainable development and improve citizens’ quality of life.
Responsibilities and goals associated with the position
Work involving the installation, verification, preparation, and calibration of electrical, electronic, or other control and measurement devices used on City equipment. The position involves driving a motor vehicle such as a pickup truck or van.
Examples of tasks:
- Maintains, checks, or modifies control, measurement, and remote transmission devices for various high-voltage variables, such as flow rates, pressure, elevation, temperature, and others; detects any defects; repairs and calibrates these devices;
- Repairs and adjusts auxiliary installations for emergency generators;
- Submits generators and defrosters to efficiency and performance tests;
- Installs, adjusts, maintains, repairs, modifies, or checks programmable logic controllers on generators, ventilation systems, variable controls, and tools, and detects malfunctions; checks the programming of the controllers.
- Draws, when required, schematic diagrams of the electrical or electronic systems or devices that he repairs, modifies, or installs;
- Installs, repairs, adjusts, maintains, modifies, and checks switches, fuses, and transformers used to control generator tools and City equipment instrumentation;
- Regularly checks the operation of motors and electronic or magnetic controls of device control systems connected to instrumentation;
- Assembles special types of electronic circuits for control, measurement, or alarm purposes.
- Maintains, repairs, and calibrates various electronic instruments and devices commonly found in a city;
- Analyses the proper functioning of various control systems using the plant operation sheet and makes any necessary repairs and modifications.
- Installs and uses various computer software programs necessary for the operation of electronic equipment and the resolution of technical problems.

Requirements
The incumbent must hold a college diploma relevant to the position from an institution recognized by the Ministry of Education and hold a Class C non-construction electrical qualification certificate, or any combination of education and experience that enables the employee to perform the duties of the position. He or she must have several years of relevant experience and a valid Class 5 driver's license.
Good knowledge of the following:
- spoken French and English, written French;
- elements of electronics and principles of electricity, control and measuring instruments, techniques, practices, and tools used for checking, repairing, and calibrating these instruments, as well as microcomputing with Excel, Vision, or AutoCAD software.
Skills:
- read, interpret, and draw schematic plans and diagrams;
- calibrate various types of instruments and detect the nature and cause of malfunctions;
- perform calculations used to prepare conversion tables and calibrate instruments.
Asset:
- Knowledge of Shneider Systems
