Description
Department mission
The mission of the Culture, Sports, Leisure and Community Development Department is to improve quality of life by promoting accessibility, participation, and integration of all citizens through the provision of excellent community, cultural, sports and recreational facilities, activities, and services.
Responsibilities and goals associated with the position
The group class instructor will be responsible for creating, preparing, and leading high-quality group classes in their respective specialty. The incumbent will be required to create choreography and/or training routines that are appropriate for the level and pace of all participants. The instructor will act as a motivator by leading the class with energy and enthusiasm to ensure progress in cardiovascular and muscular training throughout the session.
The jobholder’s main responsibilities are as follows:
- Teaching group classes in their respective field (Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Aqua Fit, etc.) at all levels;
- Creating and preparing classes compatible with the level of participants;
- Supervising all participants and making corrections to movements as needed to avoid injuries;
- Ensuring safety for activities;
- Ensuring various policies and procedures are applied and followed at all times;
- Ensuring members are highly motivated and having fun;
- Helping provide logistical support and equipment for activities;
- Taking attendance during classes and filling out management reports;
- Performing any other related tasks.
Working Hours
Variable
Between 1 and 10 hours per week (According to the needs of the department)
Salary
$29.15 to $39.67 (Annexe C Groupe 7 – White Collar)

High school diploma (DES). The position requires between (6) months to (1) year of experience in work providing the opportunity to become familiar with the nature of the job.
The jobholder must also meet the following criteria:
- Have up-to-date certification by a nationally recognized professional association of group fitness instructors;
- Have up-to-date certification in their specialty depending on the course offered (Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Aqua Fit, etc.);
- Have additional certification for some specific courses depending on the target clientele (seniors, prenatal classes, etc.);
- Have up-to-date CPR/AED and first-aid training;
- Be bilingual (spoken French and English);
- Demonstrate tact, composure, and courtesy;
- Be outgoing;
- Have excellent motivational skills and be able to communicate with the public;
- Be organized.
