Department mission

The mission of the Culture, Sports, Leisure and Community Development Department is to improve quality of life by promoting accessibility, participation, and integration of all citizens through the provision of excellent community, cultural, sports and recreational facilities, activities, and services.

Responsibilities and goals associated with the position

Reporting to the Program Manager - Performing Arts and Cultural Leisure Activities, the Assistant Manager - Cultural Recreation supervises and evaluates the annual cultural workshop program and the violin and Suzuki flute programs. The person hires and supervises staff for these programs, and monitors relations with clients. The Assistant Manager also supervises workshops at the Cultural Centre for special events (Culture Days, the Cultural Rendez-Vous, Exposcience), and develops an efficient communication plan to reach the residents of Pointe-Claire and encourage their participation in the cultural recreation and workshops program.


The jobholder's main responsibilities are as follows:

  • Participate in the repositioning of the cultural recreation and workshop program to align it better with residents’ requirements by conducting periodic evaluations of each workshop, closely monitoring the program and keeping abreast of new market trends;
  • Supervise and monitor the cultural workshop program (75 workshops per season), the violin and Suzuki flute programs;
  • Hire and supervise staff for cultural workshops and special events;
  • Manage human and material resources relating to cultural workshops: teachers’ salaries, purchase of art supplies, planning of premises and schedules;
  • Coordinate the production of cultural workshop brochures (3 a year);
  • Participate in data entry into Ludik and training of employees (front desk staff);
  • Coordinate evening registration and hire staff (6 evenings a year);
  • Participate in the programming of special events and the Learning through Play preschool program;
  • Collaborate with the Cultural Day Camps;
  • Develop a plan to improve communication with Pointe-Claire residents;
  • Supervise the work of auxiliary white collar staff assigned to cultural activities;
  • Perform any other related duties on request.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in cultural action, recreation, culture, tourism, therapeutic recreation or any other related discipline, or any other combination of education and experience considered equivalent, in accordance with the established policy. Training in administration would be an asset;
  • Written and spoken bilingualism: English and French;
  • Computer skills;
  • Tact and ability to work with the public.

Working hours

35 hours per week
