Position Summary
The Long Distance Dispatcher is responsible for the daily management of the fleet, the strategic optimization of loads, and the rigorous monitoring of pickup operations across Canada. This role serves as a central point of contact between drivers, terminals, and customer service while ensuring compliance with inventory aging priorities and manufacturer‑specific protocols.
This position requires strong organizational skills, autonomy, and attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment where every decision matters.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fleet Management and Load Optimization

Monitor drivers in real time and confirm that loads are ready for pickup.

Review and re‑evaluate loads daily to identify optimization opportunities and improve overall efficiency, considering vehicle capacities and limitations.

Manage long‑distance dispatch operations by adhering to the following principles:

Always prioritize the oldest inventory load;

Maintain full loads or a maximum of two drop‑off points for internal drivers;

Obtain approval from the responsible regional dispatcher for any load outside your assigned region.

Strictly apply manufacturer‑specific priorities.
2. Communication and Incident Management
- Continuously monitor and manage emails throughout the day, process assigned messages, and archive completed items.
- Act promptly in the event of a vehicle not picked up.
- Ensure that damage reports are completed daily by drivers.
3. Terminal Protocol Compliance
- Monitor and apply all terminal‑specific procedures and protocols.
Key Expectations and Requirements
- In the event of an unexpected driver absence, immediately notify the appropriate department.
- Collaborate with Amanda to broker the oldest loads, even when multiple drop‑off points are required, provided the operation remains profitable.
- Use official manufacturer contact information available in the reference file.
What We Are Looking For in Our Next Dispatcher
- Diploma in transportation logistics or a related certification
- Minimum 3 years of experience in logistics and/or dispatch
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft 365
- Experience working with unionized drivers (an asset)
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (e.g., Magnus, Super Dispatch, MIR)
- Ability to quickly learn and use technology tools (e.g Anydesk, Igloohome, or other mobile tracking systems)
- Strong organizational skills, priority management, and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work under pressure with a high level of autonomy
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Bilingual in French and English, spoken and written, to communicate with drivers and customers
- Customer‑focused mindset, strong team spirit, and a proactive, solution‑oriented approach
- Availability for flexible scheduling or outside regular business hours in emergency situations, as needed
- Perform any other related duties as required
Employment Conditions
- Salary: To be discussed based on relevant experience
- Schedule: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
