Our defense client is seeking a: Senior Linux System Administrator to maintain and upgrade SEACOT training systems using Red Hat Linux and VMware in a defense simulation environment

Responsible for ensuring continuous operation and reliability of Royal Canadian Navy training systems through proactive maintenance and technical upgrades.

Full-Time Contract - 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday, in Dartmouth, NS

Responsibilities

• Administer and upgrade SEACOT trainer systems supporting Royal Canadian Navy operations
• Monitor system health and resolve hardware/software issues swiftly
• Perform server and component replacements, research and procure hardware as needed
• Execute Linux updates, patches, and version upgrades on trainer infrastructure
• Maintain virtualization environments and backup integrity
• Coordinate with remote engineering teams for system support and updates
• Assist with equipment receipt, disposal, and physical handling as required

Must Haves

• 7+ years hands-on experience with Red Hat Linux system administration
• Solid experience in Bash scripting and VMware virtualization maintenance
• Hardware replacement and maintenance for rack-mounted servers and computing components
• Strong troubleshooting of Linux system and network issues in isolated environments
• Proficiency with OpenLDAP, autofs, NFS, PXE, Kickstart, and Anaconda

Nice to Have

• Experience with Ansible, Docker, Containers, and Build Stack
• Knowledge of storage solutions including TrueNAS and encryption tools LUKS, Clevis, and Tang
• Familiarity with backup systems such as Rapid Recover, EMC Networker, and Veeam
• Exposure to GitLab and PKI certification management
• Prior defense or simulation system administration experience
