Intermediate SQL Server Database Administrator to focus and support Microsoft SQL Server Databases

S.i. Systems client is looking for an Intermediate SQL Server Database Administrator to focus and support Microsoft SQL Server Databases.

12 month contract - chance of extension or conversion to FTE - 37.5 hours/week - Hybrid in Calgary (occasional office visits)

MUST HAVES:

• 3-5 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server administration (2016 and newer).
• Proficiency with backup/restore strategies and recovery models.
• Hands-on experience with performance troubleshooting using DMVs, execution plans, and indexing.
• Familiarity with HA/DR technologies: Always On Availability Groups, replication, or log shipping.
• Understanding of SQL Server security and compliance best practices.
• Working knowledge of T-SQL scripting for automation and troubleshooting.
• Exposure to monitoring tools (native or third-party such as SentryOne, Redgate, SolarWinds DPA).
• Experience in incident and change management processes (e.g., ServiceNow).
• Commvault: Administer SQL Server backups in Commvault, manage schedules (full/diff/log), perform verified point-in-time restores, and maintain documented runbooks.

NICE TO HAVES:

• Experience with cloud-hosted SQL Server (Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance).
• Familiarity with PowerShell or automation scripts for DBA tasks.
• Exposure to DevOps practices (source control, CI/CD pipelines for database changes).
