Reporting to the Manager of Planning & Construction, the Junior Planner is responsible for performing duties that support planning functions within the Planning and Facilities department.



Job Description:

  • Reviews population growth and municipal development applications to identify requirements for new school sites and additional instructional space requirements

  • Assists with the administration of the collection of Education Development Charges (EDC) and the board’s EDC By-law

  • Maintains historical student data in order to support the projecting of school enrolments

  • Compiles, researches, and analyzes school-age population data and trends across the province and within the board’s jurisdiction

  • Contacts development stakeholders in order to help track residential occupancies and forecast the generation of new students

  • Maintains and updates an inventory of school location and attendance boundary maps for the system

  • Assists with the implementation of new Ministry policy directives and legislative amendments

  • Updates the Ministry’s Education Capital Information System (ECIS)

  • Attends public meetings, committees, open houses, conferences, etc., as required

  • Performs other duties and related work as assigned by the Manager of Planning & Construction



Required Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Urban Planning, Geography, or other related field

  • 3 years relevant experience in a field related to Planning, Geography, and/or Demographics, preferably in a school board setting

  • Proficiency in Google environment, Microsoft Office program suite (in particular Excel), Adobe creative suite, and database programs

  • GIS and/or Educational Facilities Planning software program experience an asset

  • Experience in analysing and manipulating large and complex datasets

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team setting

  • Tact and discretion



This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) permanent assignment with an anticipated start date of May 1, 2026. The annual salary range for this role is $71,312 - $80,595. A comprehensive employee benefits and pension package is provided.
