Description
Exciting opportunity for a Principal to join our dynamic Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) team within our Total Fund Management department. The Principal will be responsible for developing strategic frameworks for portfolio construction, benchmarking, rebalancing, FX management, tail hedging, etc. This team applies quantitative finance methods to gain insights on the risk and return profile of the fund and collaborates within Investments to make portfolio recommendations to enhance the long-term sustainability of the Plan.
Who you will work withReporting to the Director, SAA, you will have the opportunity to influence how TFM manages the overall portfolio through convincing investment narratives supported by strong research and analysis.
As part of Strategic Asset Allocation team you will work with other teams within TFM including Portfolio Analytics & Modeling, Portfolio Strategy, Economic Research, Treasury, and Beta & Global Trading. You will also work in collaboration with other Investment departments as well as the Risk division.
What you’ll doWork with subject matter experts throughout the Investments division to develop a strong understanding of the various assets and investment strategies that form the building blocks of the total
fund
Conduct quantitative analysis (e.g. asset pricing, risk factor, portfolio construction, hedging, etc.) to help inform the total fund’s strategic allocation
Provide innovative and high-quality portfolio construction advisory to other departments within Investments
Work closely with the Portfolio Analytics & Modelling team to design models related to econometrics, time series analysis, valuation, and optimization that can be used to extract investment insights
Stay abreast of state-of-the-art research in asset allocation, risk management, and portfolio construction
Help build presentations to communicate TFM’s investment strategy to diverse audiences including Board members, the CIO-chaired Total Fund Investment Committee, and the Investments departments
Collaborate on projects and share innovative ideas with colleagues throughout the organization
Keep up to date with the financial markets and the risks of the total fund
Assist with daily portfolio management and monitoring of total fund positions
Operate within Teachers’ risk limits, portfolio policies, and internal guidelines
Support a variety of projects as required
Postgraduate degree in a Finance discipline with strong quantitative rigor preferred
CFA charter or candidacy is an asset
Advanced Python programming skills and Proficiency in Excel/VBA are required
Minimum 5-7 years related experience
Well versed in quantitative finance including advanced econometrics, time series analysis, GARCH, optimization, simulation, etc.
Penchant for investing through an empirical lens with prior experience applying quantitative methods to investment decision making
Broad knowledge of various asset classes, investment strategies/styles, and portfolio construction techniques
Knowledge of balance sheet management and its impact on portfolio risk, liquidity, and leverage
Excellent oral and written communication skills with adeptness at unpacking complex subject matter and articulating effectively to varied audiences
Ability to work well with others in a highly collaborative environment · Proven ability to innovate and advance ideas with an entrepreneurial mindset
Proficiency in SQL and handling market data through Bloomberg required
Advanced Excel and Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint)
