Officer Surveying, Red Chris Block Cave

Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.

Red Chris is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block caving-an advanced mining method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transformation represents one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.

As an Officer Surveying, you will support the accurate collection and management of surveying data critical to the development and construction of the underground block cave mine.

Your work will help ensure underground infrastructure, development headings, and project works are positioned and constructed according to engineering design. By contributing accurate survey measurements and reliable spatial data, you will play a key role in enabling safe and efficient project execution.

• Support field surveying activities for underground development, infrastructure, and construction works.
• Execute surveys to collect accurate spatial data related to mine development, surface infrastructure, and project works.
• Operate and maintain survey instruments including total stations, GPS equipment, and leveling systems.
• Prepare survey reports, maps, drawings, and data files for use by engineering and project teams.
• Verify survey measurements and calculations to ensure accuracy and alignment with engineering designs.
• Coordinate with project engineers, construction teams, and survey personnel to integrate survey data into project plans.
• Maintain survey equipment and ensure instruments remain calibrated and operational.
• Manage and organize survey data using digital systems and project databases.
• Support the preparation of survey documentation, including boundary and construction reference information.
• Identify potential field risks and support implementation of mitigation measures during surveying activities.

• Diploma or degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Mining Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
• Experience in mining, construction, infrastructure, or industrial projects is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with survey instruments such as total stations, GPS systems, and levels.
• Experience working with surveying software, mine planning systems, or digital data management tools is beneficial.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to measurement accuracy and data integrity.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, construction teams, and project stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage field data and documentation.
• Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement in a project environment.

This role will support the Red Chris Block Cave Project located in northern British Columbia.

The position is fly-in fly-out and operates on a rotational schedule of 15 days on and 13 days off.

You will work in a remote, high-altitude mining environment, supporting the development and execution of a large-scale underground mining project.

Newmont provides coordinated transportation to and from site through designated marshalling points located in:
