About the Project

Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.

Red Chris is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block caving-an advanced mining method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transformation represents one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.

Your Impact

As a Project Geologist, Red Chris Block Cave, you will support geological programs that contribute to the successful development of the underground block cave project. You will collect, interpret, and integrate geological information to support mine planning, underground development, and operational decision-making.

Your work will help ensure that geological data is accurately captured, analyzed, and integrated into project execution, supporting safe, efficient, and informed underground mining operations.

As a Part of Our Team, You Will
  • Support geological mapping (both in field and digital mapping), sampling, and data collection activities associated with underground development and project studies.
  • Contribute to the interpretation of geological structures, lithology, and mineralization to support mine planning and underground project development.
  • Implement geological data collection programs aligned with block cave development requirements.
  • Coordinate with mining, geotechnical, and technical services teams to integrate geological information into project planning and execution.
  • Contribute to geological models, cross-sections, and visualizations used to support operational decision-making.
  • Support the management and QA/QC of geological datasets, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Support and continuously improve the underground Metal Leaching Acid Rock Drainage Program.
  • Assist in assessing geological risks and contribute to mitigation strategies that support safe underground operations.
  • Support continuous improvement of geological workflows, data systems, and technical processes, including business readiness and scalable geological workflows for cave readiness.
  • Participate in site safety initiatives and promote safe work practices across geological activities.
Requirements for Success in This Role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related earth sciences discipline.
  • Experience in underground mining environments is required.
  • Exposure to structural geology and mapping, geological data interpretation, and geological modelling is required.
  • Familiarity with geological and mining software such as Leapfrog, Deswik, Vulcan, and digital mapping/photogrammetry, is an asset.
  • Understanding of how geological information integrates with mine planning, geotechnical analysis, and underground development.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Professional registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized professional association (e.g., P.Geo or GIT) is considered an asset
Your Work Environment

This role will support the Red Chris Block Cave Project located in northern British Columbia.

The position is fly-in fly-out and operates on a rotational schedule of 15 days on and 13 days off.

You will work in a remote, high-altitude mining environment, supporting the development and execution of a large-scale underground mining project.

Newmont provides coordinated transportation to and from site through designated marshalling points located in:

  • Vancouver
  • Kelowna
  • Calgary
  • Smithers

Travel arrangements are coordinated to ensure safe and reliable access to site.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$94,100 - 125,400 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
