Description
Workplace Type: Onsite
Newmont produces metals the world needs - safely, responsibly and with care for people, communities and the environment. With a 100+ year history, we continue to shape the future of mining through innovation and strong operational performance. By joining our inclusive, world-class team, you can help shape the future of mining and make a meaningful difference.
Red Chris is an open-pit copper-gold mine in the famous Golden Triangle of northern British Columbia, situated on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. As a fly-in, fly-out operation, Red Chris is reached via charter flights from multiple locations in BC and Alberta, with teams working on a rotational schedule. Currently an active open-pit producer, Red Chris is poised for an exciting transformation - we are developing a high-value underground block cave that will extend the mine’s life for decades and unlock even more resources. The remote location fosters a close-knit “camp” community where safety and teamwork come first. Working at Red Chris offers an adventurous career at the frontier of mining innovation, with the opportunity to shape a major expansion while enjoying the natural beauty of northern Canada. Our team values strong partnerships with local First Nations and is committed to operating in a safe, inclusive and environmentally responsible way.
Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.
Red Chris is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block caving-an advanced mining method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transformation represents one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.
Newmont is committed to working in partnership with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
As a Mine Planner Intern, you will support mining operations by assisting in the execution and tracking of mine plans, while gaining exposure to mine planning processes and tools.
Working alongside Operations and Technical Services teams, you will develop an understanding of how mine plans are implemented in the field, how performance is monitored, and how cross-functional coordination supports safe and efficient mining activities.
This role provides a strong foundation in both operational execution and planning exposure within a large-scale underground mining project.

- Assist in preparing technical reports, presentations, and planning summaries.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in planning processes and tools.
- Maintain strict adherence to Newmont’s safety, environmental, and operational standards.
- Currently enrolled in a Co-op or undergraduate program in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Basic understanding of mining operations and exposure to mine planning concepts.
- Strong willingness to learn in a field-based environment.
- Ability to follow procedures and work under supervision.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Exposure to mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight) is an asset.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and responsible mining practices.
This role will support the Red Chris Block Cave Project located in northern British Columbia.
The position is fly-in fly-out and operates on a rotational schedule of 15 days on / 13 days off.
