About the Project

Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in Taltan Territory, northern British Columbia. Operated by Newmont since 2023, the mine is transitioning from open pit to underground block caving-an innovative method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transition will create new, technically advanced roles and opportunities to work alongside global experts. We are committed to partnering with the Taltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers long-term social, environmental, and economic benefits.

Your Impact

As Lead Cost Accounting, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the financial integrity of the Red Chris Block Cave Project. Your leadership and financial insight will support informed decision-making across one of Newmont’s most complex and strategically important growth projects, ensuring strong cost discipline, transparency, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

As a Part of Our Team, You Will
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow management for the Red Chris Block Cave Project
  • Monitor actual project costs against approved budgets, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions
  • Ensure accurate allocation of capital costs in accordance with Newmont financial policies and accounting standards
  • Partner closely with Project Controls, Business Evaluation, Engineering, Construction, and Site Leadership teams
  • Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the project
  • Coordinate project financial close activities, including accruals, reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Support change management by assessing the financial impact of scope changes and schedule adjustments
  • Identify financial risks and contribute to mitigation strategies in a large-scale underground development environment
  • Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits related to the project
  • Drive continuous improvement in project accounting processes, systems, and reporting
  • Lead, coach, and develop project accounting team members, fostering an inclusive and high-performance culture
Requirements for Success in This Role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in project accounting or financial management on large capital projects, preferably in mining or heavy industrial environments
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, internal controls, audit requirements, and capital project accounting
  • Advanced skills in budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and financial analysis
  • Proven ability to partner with multidisciplinary teams and influence senior stakeholders
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, technically complex project environment
Your Work Environment
  • This role is based in Vancouver and will require frequent travel to the Red Chris Project site. As construction ramps up, there will be an increasing requirement to spend extended time at site.
  • You will work in a hybrid setting that combines office-based responsibilities with on-site engagement, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, EPCMs, and contractors. The role requires adaptability to remote project conditions and flexibility during critical phases, which may include extended hours to meet key milestones.
  • You will be part of a culture rooted in safety, inclusion, and strong partnership with the Taltan Nation and local communities.

The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
