Purpose

The Apprentice will become trained and proficient in the troubleshooting, inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair of Electrical equipment within a Mine and Mill setting. Apprenticeship training will be performed on site.

Responsibilities

Performing daily electrical installation, maintenance and repair activities under the direction of a Certified Journeyperson Construction and Maintenance Electrician while carrying out assigned duties safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate will possess the following education, experience and competencies:
  • Candidates must possess an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or High School Equivalency.
  • Will be required to attend and successfully complete a 9000 hour apprenticeship which includes 3 school term sessions consisting of ten (10) weeks for each session taking approximately 5 years to complete.
  • Past experience with industrial setting would be an asset
  • Strong commitment to working in a safe, socially responsible manner
  • Willingness to communicate, learn, and be innovative
  • As a self-starter, you will be versatile and results oriented with a strong willingness to complete the apprenticeship to Certified Journeyperson Construction and Maintenance Electrician level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Strong Mechanical / Electrical aptitude
Working Conditions

All applicants will be required to complete an Apprentice Aptitude Test (to determine suitability) and. meet a minimum required score of 70% in order to start the apprentice program. (Sample questions will be provided for studying purposes.) In addition to this, the candidate will undergo an in person/WebEx interview with the Apprenticeship committee chair and hiring manager to determine suitability.

The schedule for this position will consist of 14 days on and 14 days off, 12 hours per day.
