Purpose

The Blaster will provide high quality blast patterns in a safe productive manner at all times. Working closely with the Drill & Blast Engineers and MMU Operators onsite to manage all tasks associated with priming, loading, tying and firing blasts in the open pit and quarry areas.

The Red Chris Mine Drill & Blast Operations team is recruiting for a Blaster with a competitive hourly rate of $48.98, benefits, and travel allowance. We are seeking an individual for a Fly-In, Fly-Out opportunity working on a two-weeks-in, two-weeks-out rotation.

Essential Duties

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct and record pre-trip inspections on all equipment used daily or before use and report any faults
  • Conduct an inspection of your work area prior to starting work and monitor throughout the shift
  • Safe transportation of explosive accessories to and from the blast patterns and magazines
  • Ensure quality control is maintained and ensure pattern prep is maintained to a high standard
  • Ensure blast holes are loaded to design and within the required parameters and any potential issues are communicated to the supervisor/ drill and blast engineer
  • Ensure adequate barriers, signage and delineation of blast patterns
  • Conduct all tasks according to relevant procedures
  • Conduct risk assessments FLHA’s and risk assessments when required
  • Ensuring blasing inventory counts are accurate and any discrepancies are reported immediately
  • Act as blast guard/ sweeper during blasting activities if required
  • Any other duties as required
  • Assist in the safe movement of MMU’s, stemming loader and blasting vehicles on blast patterns
Training & Experience

Job requirements and qualifications include:

  • Valid Blast Ticket #3, or better, required.
  • Drilling experience preferred but not required.
    • Open Pit Mine drilling experience is a strong asset
  • 1 year or longer of Open Pit Blasting experience (IKON Blasting)
  • Experience working with NON-EL blast chord is an asset
  • Wall Control Blasting experience preferred
  • Experience with 918 Loaders and/or Articulated Haul Trucks, or other Heavy Equipment, is an asset
  • 2+ years experience working in an Open Pit mine environment
  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 50lbs consistently throughout shift

The expected salary range for this role is CA$48.98/hr . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
