The Compliance Consultant will provide ongoing support to our Canada Segment Individual Insurance, and Affinity businesses. Responsibilities will include handling inquiries and questions from our business partners, providing support on new and existing initiatives, legislation, and other regulatory compliance functions as may be required. The incumbent must have a detailed knowledge of applicable compliance requirements, industry issues and be familiar with insurance to consult on and develop solutions that meet business needs. The individual in this role is a self-starter and collaborative partner to our business. This role will interact with Management, Legal Counsel, Segment Compliance, Internal Audit, industry peers and regulators.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs, policies and procedures to help ensure that the business unit meets regulatory and risk-based compliance requirements.

  • Assist in reviewing and interpreting legislation and communicate regulatory requirements in plain language to our business partners.

  • Participate in segment, global and/or industry discussions regarding compliance programs and regulatory changes.

  • Assess the risk of compliance requirements and provide guidance to the business unit as to potential approaches to risk avoidance or mitigation.

  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of compliance-related procedures and controls and assess adherence to these controls by the business unit.

  • Identify and/ or report significant regulatory compliance issues, providing guidance to the business unit as to remediation and escalating compliance issues to the CCO.

  • Develop, update & deliver training materials/programs for compliance team and business partners.

  • Consult as an active compliance partner on business unit, cross segment and global initiatives and projects to facilitate business objectives while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies and standards.

  • Respond to compliance inquiries and escalations from all areas of the business unit and provide timely and creative solutions that address the needs of the client, the advisor and Manulife, while satisfying regulatory requirements and Manulife policies and standards.

  • Provide assistance in responding to audits, regulatory examinations and investigations where required.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of compliance experience within the financial services industry.

  • University degree; industry courses or professional certifications are an asset.

  • Strong knowledge of Insurance products, services, distribution channels, and operations.

  • Solid understanding of applicable laws, regulations, industry rules, guidelines, and compliance‑related risks.

  • Demonstrated professional judgment, integrity, and adherence to high ethical standards.

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset. If the successful candidate is in Quebec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support our business partners from various provinces outside of Quebec.

Salary range is expected to be between

$71,475.00 CAD - $119,125.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
