AVP Strategic Risk Management

The AVP, Strategic Risk Management is responsible for leading the enterprise-wide strategic risk function, including the design, implementation, and oversight of frameworks that address risks with potential to materially impact the company’s strategy, capital, and reputation-such as geopolitical, regulatory, environmental, and reputational risks. Reporting to the Global Head of Enterprise Risk Management, this role collaborates with senior leadership, provides strategic oversight and challenge across business segments, and ensures alignment with regulatory expectations. The AVP also will support and mentor a team of professionals, engages with regulators, and drives integration of strategic risk into planning and decision-making processes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Risk Framework & Oversight (60%)

    • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of Strategic Risk Policies and Frameworks.

    • Ensure alignment with the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Framework and evolving regulatory expectations.

    • Provide strategic oversight and challenge to the identification, assessment, treatment, monitoring, and reporting of strategic risks across business segments and corporate functions.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting (20%)

  • Produce high-quality risk reporting and insights for the Global CRO, Executive Risk Committee, and Board Risk Committee.

  • Collaborate with leaders across Risk, Strategy, Legal, Government Relations, and Public Affairs to embed strategic risk considerations into planning and decision-making processes.

  • Represent the organization in regulatory engagements and industry forums related to strategic and emerging risks.

  • Training, Awareness & Culture Integration (10%)

  • Support development and delivery of training and awareness programs related to strategic risk and risk appetite.

  • Support the integration of strategic risk into broader risk culture initiatives in collaboration with the AVP, Risk Culture and other ERM leaders.

  • Leadership & Team Development (10%)

  • Lead and mentor assigned ERM team members supporting strategic risk deliverables

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team environment.

Shared Responsibilities:

  • Along with the Global Head of ERM, AVP ERM Framework and Process, and AVP Risk Culture, build a highly engaged, inclusive and collaborative ERM group

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Risk, Business, Political Science, Law, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in financial services, with a strong background in risk management, strategy, regulatory affairs, or public policy.

  • Proven ability to lead enterprise-wide initiatives and influence senior stakeholders, including Board-level engagement.

  • Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., OSFI, NAIC) and global risk standards.

  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities.

Salary range is expected to be between

$123,400.00 CAD - $229,300.00 CAD
