This is an exciting time for Halton Healthcare and our region, as we begin work to expand our hospital capacity over the next two years. In order to meet the growing needs of the community, we are strengthening care by developing modern spaces within existing hospital infrastructure. This role will play a pivotal part in the upcoming redevelopment project by serving as a senior strategic communications partner to the executive lead and program/department leaders, providing dedicated support for complex, multi-year special projects, including hospital expansion and redevelopment initiatives.
Responsibilities:
As part of Halton Healthcare Services Communications and Public Affairs team, the Senior Communications Consultant - Special Projects will serve as a senior strategic communications partner to the executive lead and program/department leaders, providing dedicated support for complex, multi-year special projects, including hospital expansion and redevelopment initiatives. This position is also responsible for contributing to the corporate reputation program and supporting the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
- Lead communications strategy for large-scale transformation, infrastructure, and growth projects, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, timelines, and stakeholder expectations.
- Proactively consult with internal clients to understand business objectives, anticipate communications needs, and identify opportunities to strengthen understanding, alignment, and confidence among staff, physicians, partners, and the community.
- Develop and oversee comprehensive, multi-phase strategic and operational communications plans for assigned special projects, including sequencing, work-back schedules, risk mitigation, budgets, and performance measures.
- Lead the development of high-quality communications products, including key messages, stories, speeches, presentations, briefing notes, opinion pieces, advertising copy, digital and social content, and media materials related to special projects and expansion.
- Introduce and develop community newsletters and support the development of video content and outreach materials to ensure timely updates for special projects.
- Act as a senior communications resource for executive leads, supporting them with briefing materials, talking points, and advice to navigate complex or sensitive situations related to expansion and other enterprise initiatives.
- Support the development and advancement of the corporate communications strategy by integrating lessons learned, best practices, and emerging approaches from large-scale capital and transformation initiatives.
- Anticipate, identify, and manage emerging issues-both risks and opportunities-that may impact organizational reputation, trust, or relationships, and develop proactive messaging, positioning statements, and response strategies.
- Monitor emerging trends in healthcare, infrastructure development, government policy, and public expectations, and assess their implications for communications strategy and organizational positioning.
- Represent Communications at key project tables, committees, and working groups, ensuring communications considerations are embedded early in planning and decision-making processes.
- Ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to communications across multiple channels, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Work closely with Creative Services, the Content Manager, and the broader communications team to translate strategy into compelling, audience-focused communications that support long-term change and growth.
- Bachelor’s degree program in a related field (Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Affairs) or recognized equivalent, e.g., bachelor’s degree with a public relations/communications diploma from a recognized community college.
- Minimum of seven (7) to 10 years of work experience as a communications strategist and generalist in a public affairs and communications environment. A minimum of 2 years working experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not required.
- Solid knowledge of marketing and public relations principles and practices. Strong media relations skills and working knowledge of print, broadcast, online and social media.
- Superior writing and editing skills with the ability to take complex and clinical information and quickly translate it into compelling messages to reach a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in writing strategic communications plans, speeches, content for publications and promotional materials, etc.
- Highly developed project management skills.
- Highly articulate with strong verbal communications and presentation skills.
- Excellent critical thinking and judgement skills.
- Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization in a fast-paced, high profile, deadline-oriented environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external partners.
- Proven ability to mentor and coach junior staff to grow into emerging leaders.
- Experience working with a variety of technologies and platforms including social media, website and intranet content development and management.
- Demonstrated experience championing best practices in communications.
Hours: Monday to Friday; 7.5 hour days (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $48.746 to $60.393
