ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Contribute to a high level of customer satisfaction by:
- Reviewing the planned route of delivery and / or pickups and all related documentation; following-up with the Sales Co-ordinator on any issues / concerns / questions in advance of commencing delivery / pick-up route.
- Loading truck for safest and most efficient, timely and accurate, deliveries and pickups.
- Delivering new products to customer locations and assisting customers with product unloading / loading of new and used products
- Picking up defective or other products, including used batteries, as authorized for return to East Penn Canada warehouse.
- Accurately processing all warehouse and shipping paperwork.
- Responding to inquiries of staff and customers for the purpose of providing information and / or direction regarding the status of deliveries
- Ensure compliance with all legislated requirements by:
- Maintaining familiarity with all legislation / requirements / practices related to the transfer of batteries and battery-related products.
- Following all applicable rules of the road as per provincial / municipal jurisdiction.
- Completing and maintaining documentation with regard to bills of lading, dangerous goods, and daily log books.
- Contribute to a safe and efficient work environment at all times by:
- Following all Company and warehouse policies.
- Ensuring equipment is in good operating condition by performing daily pre-shift inspections of vehicle and, where applicable, onboard material handling equipment. Servicing (fuel, lubricants, and accessories) and cleaning vehicle as appropriate. Reporting any issues or concerns.
- Complying with all Company and provincial Health & Safety regulations (safety equipment, forklift operation, TDG, WHMIS, Workers Compensation, etc.).
- Identifying and reporting all potential hazards / health & safety concerns
- Actively participating in regularly scheduled cycle and ad hoc inventory counts
- Contributes to a positive team environment by:
- Willingly sharing work-related knowledge
- Providing back-up support to other functions (e.g., warehouse, delivery, battery inspection and service) if/when required
- Maintaining and wearing Company uniform in good order
Education
Experience
- 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training (i.e. driving commercially, warehouse experience, etc.)
- Prior customer service or health & safety experience / training an asset
Competencies (Technical, Functional and behavioral)
- Good verbal communication skills
- Good organization skills to organize time, route, loading of truck
- Ability to confidently manoeuvre vehicle into small driveways / spaces (e.g. customer dealership lots)
- Ability to work unsupervised (on the road) as well as part of a team
- Ability to calculate estimated weights (e.g. load limits) and to adjust route if/when appropriate.
- Maintains a positive and professional demeanour at all times when dealing with customers and colleagues
- Applies common sense understanding and accuracy to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions
- Reads and uses a map book in locating destinations and planning route (not necessarily relying on GPS)
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid driver’s license and endorsements, as per provincial requirements, to operate a triple-axle truck over 4,500 kg net weight with airbrakes.
- Clean driving record (driver extract required on request)
- Certificate in dangerous goods, handling and transport (training provided)
- Forklift certificate an asset
