SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The incumbent of the position will hold a permanent full-time position but will be governed by the 4x4 Floating Team agreement as a part time position working 4 weeks in a row followed by 4 weeks of absences including certain provisions.

The Nursing Float Team is a group of nurses and licensed practical nurses that will rotate assignation in various communities. The planning of the rotation will be done according to the need of the communities and in partnership with the AIS and members of the team. One aim of this project is to create variety in the different position available in the organization.

The LPN participates in a range of nursing care activities in collaboration with the care team. Assess users’ state of health and ensure implementation of the care plans, provide nursing and wellness support, as well as nursing and medical care and treatment to maintain health, restore health and prevent disease. Participate in teaching users and their relatives.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
• In collaboration with the department’s team, the licensed practical nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing client care and collaborating with nurses, beneficiary attendants, physicians and other health care professionals and various partners involved.

• The LPN will engage in a range of nursing activities detailed below, using professional judgement in a humane, respectful and high-quality approach. He/she must ensure to work within his/her area of expertise in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the professional practice of LPNs.

• She/he collaborates in the data collection relating to the client's health history and, among other things, he/she measures patients’ vital signs, prepares and administers medication, carries out the various treatments prescribed by the physicians, changes dressing according to the treatment plan, performs blood tests as prescribed and helps provide basic care for hygiene and comfort.

• She/he may be assigned to different settings, depending on his/her experience and training : elders home, Chisasibi Hospital, sampling center, ambulatory clinic, current services.

REQUIREMENTS
Education:
• Must hold a diploma of vocational studies (DVS) in health, assistance and nursing from a school recognized by the competent government department;
• Must be a member of l'Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Quebec.


Experience:
• Two (2) years of experience as a licensed practical nurse.

Knowledge and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the Cree culture, language and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset;
• Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills;
• Dynamic personality and self-confidence;
• Autonomy, sense of initiative, flexibility, discretion and empathy;
• Ability to work under pressure;
• Good observation skills and self-control;
• Excellent critical-thinking, organizational and decision-making skills.

LANGUAGE
• Fluent in English;
• Fluency in Cree or French is an asset.

OTHER
• This position includes on-call periods;
• The applicants selected must successfully complete the following training: The administration of epinephrine for severe anaphylactic type allergic reactions. (4 hours).
