As a Senior Analyst, Credit Risk Strategy Oversight, you will contribute analytical depth, structured review, and developing independent challenge across Canadian Retail lending business. Operating in the second line, you will apply sound judgment and strong analytical capabilities to support the identification, assessment, and communication of non‑routine credit risk issues enhancing decision quality, transparency, and alignment to risk appetite, regulatory expectations, and governance standards. Your focus will be on business/group priorities, with opportunities to contribute to enterprise initiatives as your experience grows.
Key Responsibilities
Independent Risk Oversight & Analytical Review
- Support independent assessments of credit proposals, strategy updates, segmentation approaches, and ML‑enabled decisioning.
- Conduct analyses on assumptions, data quality, performance monitoring, and portfolio impacts; identify issues and recommend escalation where appropriate.
- Contribute to the preparation of clear, concise second‑line commentary, summaries, and risk insights for committees and senior leadership.
Portfolio Risk Insight & Stress Testing Support
- Execute components of regulatory capital and stress‑testing analysis, including data preparation, scenario interpretation, and variable review.
- Perform deep‑dive analytics on trends, concentrations, and emerging risks to support forward‑looking portfolio assessments.
- Prepare analytical summaries and visualizations that translate complex findings into decision‑ready insights.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Provide analytical support to partners in Credit, Product, Finance, Operations, and Data/Analytics, ensuring risk considerations are appropriately incorporated.
- Assist in preparing materials that distill complex technical analysis into clear, simple narratives suitable for non‑technical audiences.
- Participate in cross‑functional discussions to ensure alignment with governance, data quality, and control expectations.
Credit Governance & Policy Support
- Support maintenance of credit governance documents, tracking requirements, and ensuring documentation accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in monitoring adherence to credit policies, standards, and Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) requirements.
- Help coordinate supporting materials for oversight reviews, audits, examinations, and control‑related activities.
Judgment, Independence & Continuous Improvement
- Work independently on assigned analytical tasks and non‑routine issues within established guidelines and frameworks.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, documentation consistency, and reporting accuracy.
- Take ownership of assigned workstreams, with broader responsibilities assigned as experience and business needs evolve.
Qualifications
- Typically 4-6 years in lending, credit risk, analytics, portfolio management, or related functions within a financial institution.
- Postsecondary degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Applied analytics experience with Python, SQL, SAS, R, or similar tools; demonstrated ability to synthesize complex analysis into clear, decision‑ready narratives and visuals.
- Working understanding of banking, credit risk concepts, and portfolio analytics gained through education and hands‑on experience.
- Data‑driven decision making
- Basic understanding of compliance and regulatory expectations
- Machine‑learning awareness (bias, overfitting, explainability basics)

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
