Role Overview

The Associate will support the origination, structuring and relationship management of Financial Institutions (including Banks, Canadian Broker-Dealers and market infrastructure participants). This role combines FIG coverage responsibilities with exposure to Market Structure clients, requiring strong analytical skills, credit expertise and the ability to coordinate with product partners across Capital Markets. The Associate will play a key role in transaction execution, client support, and cross-selling initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Coverage & Relationship Management
  • Provide junior coverage and relationship management support for Global Banks, foreign bank operations in North America and Broker/Dealer - Market Structure clients.
  • Assist in preparing client pitch books, briefing memos, call reports, and presentations.
  • Monitor client, industry, and regulatory developments impacting portfolios.
  • Support prospecting and pre-qualifying client opportunities.
Deal Structuring & Execution
  • Assist in structuring and executing credit transactions, including preparation of credit documentation (applications, memoranda).
  • Conduct financial analysis and credit assessments on new and existing relationships.
  • Support transaction flow and inquiries related to trade finance and liquidity products.
Product & Cross-Selling Initiatives
  • Coordinate with product specialists to deliver integrated solutions across Capital Markets (FX, Fixed Income, Derivatives, DCM, Cash Management, Trade Finance).
  • Support new product rollouts and strategic initiatives to deepen client penetration.
  • Assist in managing FIG deposit/liquidity book and identifying portfolio diversification opportunities.
Collaboration & Development
  • Work closely with senior bankers and product partners to ensure successful deal completion.
  • Build strong internal relationships and contribute to team initiatives.
  • Take an active role in special projects and process improvement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in corporate/commercial lending, FIG coverage, or related financial services role.
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, or accounting required; MBA or CFA an asset.
Skills:
  • Solid understanding of capital markets and investment banking products.
  • Strong credit analysis and financial modeling capabilities.
  • Proficiency in financial applications and database management tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight timelines.
  • Assets: Experience with CIRO or FINRA-regulated broker-dealers; familiarity with organizational lending and portfolio management policies.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
