The 2nd Class Power Engineer is directly accountable to the Power Plant Coordinator, and the incumbent is responsible for the hospital physical plant operations, maintenance and/or projects in disciplines for which the incumbent's respective training and certifications are appropriate. The 2nd Class Power Engineer will be the primary resource for coordination of facilities operations, inclusive of the Power Plant, while the Facilities Maintenance and Engineering personnel are off shift and during the weekend. This position will be required to work at other hospital sites within the Edmonton Zone (including rural).

As a Power Engineer 2nd Class, you will be responsible for monitoring, controlling and regulating the operation of the Power Plant as it relates to the production and distribution of heat, air, water and power in accordance with Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) regulations and established Alberta Health Services' standards and practices. Based on ABSA regulations, the Power Engineer 2nd Class is a Shift Engineer in a Power Plant over 10,000 kilowatts.

Completion of 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate.

Valid Province of Alberta or Inter-Provincial 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate of Competency is required. Minimum of 1 - 3 years’ experience with progressive responsibilities in the operation and maintenance of a modern 1st Class pressure plant in a hospital setting is required. Good knowledge of DCS (i.e., Insight, ABB, etc.) is required. Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License. ABSA Certification is required. Demonstrated operational and maintenance abilities as well as proven mechanical aptitude. Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. No physical limitations with regards to sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching, etc. Good verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work under own initiative with minimal direction is required.

Additional courses in power engineering, mechanical, electrical, as well as computer systems (preferably ABB), and/or experience in water treatment and engineering would be an asset. Considerable experience in HVAC, Preventative Maintenance Systems, Computer Network Systems and current industrial software is also desired.
