Description
Health Shared Services (HSS) is seeking a Business Analyst to support IT Network & Telecom Services. This dynamic role works closely with management, procurement, contracting, and finance to drive initiatives and improve decision-making through data-driven insights. The Business Analyst plays a key role in optimizing departmental operations, finances, and procurement processes, while collaborating with teams to understand operational needs, document requirements, and assess impacts. The position contributes to developing clear, repeatable processes and facilitates stakeholder engagement to turn business needs into actionable solutions and continuous improvement opportunities. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the effectiveness, sustainability, and performance of IT Network Services supporting healthcare delivery across Alberta.
As a Business Analyst, you will work as a liaison among stakeholders in order to understand the structure, policies and operations of an organization, and to recommend solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals. You will interpret client needs, assess requirements and identify solutions to non-standard issues and requests, provide advice and direction to clients, and contribute to solutions by providing input into strategy, workflows and delivery for assigned projects and programs.
Completion of a post-secondary degree in a related field, or equivalent level of education and experience.
Candidate should have 3+ years of experience demonstrating competencies in core business analysis practices, tools, and techniques. Experience supporting large, complex IT environments is strongly preferred, particularly in operational settings that require close coordination between business, technical, contracting and financial stakeholders. This role requires proven experience in procurement support, vendor engagement, billing validation and reconciliation, and close collaboration with finance teams to ensure financial accuracy. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational, written, verbal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams. This role includes maintaining standard operating procedures for departmental use, working closely with technical staff to ensure processes are clear, repeatable, and aligned with operational realities. Stakeholder engagement skills include the ability to facilitate both direct and group discussions. Also, the ability to critically evaluate information from multiple sources, distinguish stated requirements from underlying business needs, and clearly communicate requirements to stakeholders and implementation teams. Experience using procurement & financial systems. Proficiency with common business tools is required, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, Project and SharePoint.
Post-secondary education or certification in business analytics. Proficiency with advanced analytics tools such as scripting, Splunk, and Power BI is desirable. Familiarity with Alberta healthcare environments is an asset, along with a working understanding of network technologies sufficient to engage technical experts. Strong ability to analyze operational and financial data to identify efficiencies and continuous improvement opportunities is highly valued.
