JYSK was first established in Denmark in 1979 and now operates in 50 countries at more than 3,000 stores. The first Canadian JYSK store was opened in 1996 in Coquitlam, BC. Today there are 61 JYSK stores in Canada, with locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec. JYSK Canada is a franchisee of JYSK.
