About the Project

The Digital Navigation Project for Colon Cancer Screening aims to streamline access to timely colonoscopy for patients with a positive FIT (fecal immunochemical test) result. This initiative will design and implement a digital solution to allow patients to self-schedule colonoscopy appointments through a secure, integrated platform, starting with a pilot at Sunnybrook.

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented computer programmer to support the design and development of a patient-facing booking platform using an existing eReferral system. The ideal candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, researchers, and administrators to ensure seamless integration with existing electronic medical records/hospital information systems (e.g., Accuro, OR Manager) and provide a user-friendly, secure, and adaptable interface for patients and clinical staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test the supplementary programming for the existing eReferral system to support a patient-facing option to book colonoscopy appointments for FIT-positive persons.
  • Integrate the booking tool with existing clinical systems (e.g., Accuro, OR Manager).
  • Enable key platform features such as:
    • Appointment slot selection within specified timeframes
    • SMS/email notifications and reminders
    • Automated workflows based on patient eligibility and response
    • Options for cancellation, rescheduling, and returning to conventional navigation
  • Collaborate with project leads and coordinator to define workflow requirements and timelines.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and support during pilot implementation.
  • Document system functionality and contribute to training resources as needed.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or higher completed or in progress in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience with web-based health applications or digital health systems.
  • Familiarity with the OCEAN Platform or willingness to rapidly learn and adapt.
  • Knowledge of EMR systems (e.g., Accuro or ORM) is a strong asset.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deliverables to meet project milestones.

Please submit your resume, a cover letter outlining your interest in the role.

We thank all applicants for their interest but only candidates short-listed for interview will be contacted.
