About the Project
The Digital Navigation Project for Colon Cancer Screening aims to streamline access to timely colonoscopy for patients with a positive FIT (fecal immunochemical test) result. This initiative will design and implement a digital solution to allow patients to self-schedule colonoscopy appointments through a secure, integrated platform, starting with a pilot at Sunnybrook.
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented computer programmer to support the design and development of a patient-facing booking platform using an existing eReferral system. The ideal candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, researchers, and administrators to ensure seamless integration with existing electronic medical records/hospital information systems (e.g., Accuro, OR Manager) and provide a user-friendly, secure, and adaptable interface for patients and clinical staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test the supplementary programming for the existing eReferral system to support a patient-facing option to book colonoscopy appointments for FIT-positive persons.
- Integrate the booking tool with existing clinical systems (e.g., Accuro, OR Manager).
- Enable key platform features such as:
- Appointment slot selection within specified timeframes
- SMS/email notifications and reminders
- Automated workflows based on patient eligibility and response
- Options for cancellation, rescheduling, and returning to conventional navigation
- Collaborate with project leads and coordinator to define workflow requirements and timelines.
- Provide technical troubleshooting and support during pilot implementation.
- Document system functionality and contribute to training resources as needed.
Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher completed or in progress in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated experience with web-based health applications or digital health systems.
- Familiarity with the OCEAN Platform or willingness to rapidly learn and adapt.
- Knowledge of EMR systems (e.g., Accuro or ORM) is a strong asset.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaborative skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage deliverables to meet project milestones.
