The Child, Youth and Emerging Adult Program is seeking a full-time, contract (9 months) Research Analyst to join an innovative clinical research team focused on investigating the characterization and treatment of co-occurring mental health conditions (e.g., depression) in children, youth and young adults with autism spectrum disorder and/or psychosis. Studies include behavioral-cognitive, neuroimaging (structural and functional MRI, PET imaging), interview-based qualitative designs, and health systems research.
Reporting to the Principal Investigators and the Slaight Centre Research Operations Manager, responsibilities will include supporting the following activities: maintaining recruitment protocols at multiple sites (i.e., providing information about the studies to patients, families, and mental health professionals), scheduling and conducting eligibility screenings, informed consent processes and data collection visits, administering questionnaires and interviews, arranging MRI and PET scan appointments and accompanying participants to these visits, organizing and conducting individual and focus group interviews, and assisting with the preparation of research ethics and regulatory submissions, presentations and manuscripts (e.g. conducting literature searches, verifying references, preparing data, conducting simple data analyses).
Responsibilities may also include providing assistance in preparing research materials, organizing and maintaining study records, collecting, coding and entering data, monitoring data integrity, ensuring the secure storage and maintenance of study records, assisting in the recruitment and training of research volunteers and providing administrative support to the researchers (e.g. booking meetings, communicating and coordinating tasks with other research team members, processing participant remuneration, filing financial documentation and performing other duties in the research office as required).
The Research Analyst will conduct study activities in compliance with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements, including Research Ethics Board (REB) and CAMH Research Quality and Regulatory Affairs requirements. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and effective communication. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required.
This position is located at 1025 Queen Street West.
The successful candidate will have a BA in Psychology or in a health related field with a combination of one (1) year of relevant research experience, preferably in a clinical setting. Coursework and/or demonstrated academic interest in developmental disorders is required. Previous experience recruiting, screening and obtaining informed consent from research participants is required. Previous experience administering questionnaires and interviews with children and families. Demonstrated expertise in PET imaging, including previous or current studies using PET in psychosis and autism spectrum disorder populations is required; demonstrated expertise in MRI research in clinical populations is required, including psychosis and autism spectrum disorders. Intermediate level proficiency in PC software skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet searching is required. Experience processing data (e.g. coding, entry and maintenance) and analyzing data using basic statistical methods and software and some knowledge of biostatistical/ epidemiological data analysis techniques is required. Strong research and analytical abilities and basic understanding of qualitative research methods and software (i.e. NVivo) is an asset. Experience conducting searches in scientific literature and/or databases, and writing systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses is preferred. Experience with online communication is an asset. Candidates are expected to be detail-oriented, well organized, and to possess a strong technical aptitude. Candidates will have demonstrated proficiency with database software packages and data analysis using SPSS and R. Candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral and verbal communication skills, and an ability to provide assistance while maintaining a cooperative, collaborative working environment. Preference will be given to candidates with familiarity or experience with clinical research involving participants with ASD or other child/youth mental health research. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be at asset.
