Senior Data Engineer

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and optimizing Xplore’s enterprise data lakehouse platform. You’ll lead delivery of ingestion pipelines, implement data governance and observability, and act as a subject matter expert across data engineering best practices. You will mentor intermediate and junior engineers, contribute to platform standards, and partner with analytics and AI teams to deliver high-quality, trusted datasets.

Key responsibilities include:

• Architect and implement data pipelines (batch & streaming) from on-prem and cloud systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, Salesforce APIs, telemetry).
• Model and optimize data flows across medallion lakehouse layers (bronze/silver/gold).
• Implement and enforce governance, lineage, cataloging, and data quality frameworks.
• Optimize ELT processes and distributed compute performance (e.g., Spark, Databricks).
• Contribute to CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, observability, and cost governance practices.
• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and drive knowledge-sharing.
• Partner with data science, BI, and AI teams to provision clean and well-documented data products.
• Translate business requirements into scalable data engineering solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• 5-7 years of experience in data engineering.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL, and performance tuning at scale.
• Extensive experience with modern platforms (e.g., Databricks, Azure, cloud storage).
• Strong expertise with lakehouse/data warehouse, distributed compute, and streaming frameworks with ingestion from APIs, Salesforce, and on-prem databases.
• Experience with governance and metadata management tools.
• Familiarity with Canadian privacy and compliance frameworks (PIPEDA/CPPA, Law 25).
• Knowledge of CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and data observability solutions.
• Strong communication skills and demonstrated mentorship experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
