Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

SMHC is a 252-bed facility that provides long-term mental health inpatient treatment and rehabilitation services to residents of Manitoba whose challenging needs cannot be met elsewhere in the provincial health care system.

SMHC patient treatment is delivered on a campus-like setting with several buildings (an area size totaling 233,571 square feet) located throughout the grounds as well as three community group homes located in Selkirk.

The incumbent will be working around patients and staff in five different buildings at the facility; patient safety and confidentiality is a priority.

Main Function:

The purpose is to assist in all aspects of the Maintenance Tradesperson job: assisting in preventative maintenance, small carpentry, mechanical, and furniture assembly/repairs for Selkirk Mental Health Centre.

Experience
  • Experience in working with a variety of hand tools, saws, drills, and sanders.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • An acceptable certificate of qualification less than Journeyman in a field related to carpentry, mechanical or electrical work or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License is required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work on own and within a team is essential.
  • Experience working with computers: Microsoft Office applications - Outlook, Word, Excel is an asset.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience with WHMIS and Workplace Health and Safety practices and policies are desired.
  • Satisfactory attendance record.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be physically able to do heavy lifting or carrying, work on feet for eight (8) hour shifts, work with heights and/or in varying environmental conditions (inside, outside, high humidity).
