JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Administrative Director of Medical Services and in collaboration with the pediatric ophthalmologist, the orthoptist plans, organizes, directs and coordinates activities to provide quality services to patients in accordance with professional standards and the policies and procedures of Vitalité Health Network.

The orthoptist is specialized in studying eye motility and visual development. In collaboration with the pediatric ophthalmologist, the orthoptist studies visual system dysfunctions involving vision, eye movement, eye alignment and binocularity, and assists in making diagnoses. The orthoptist is primarily interested in non-surgical treatment of amblyopia and strabismus.

The orthoptist performs the appropriate examinations in a timely and efficient manner and also supervises the activities and services of the clinical assistant.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in pure science;
  • Certificate in orthoptics from a recognized institution;
  • Member in good standing of the Canadian Orthoptic Council and annual maintenance of right to practice;
  • Five years’ experience in a facility providing eye care;
  • Five years’ recent experience with a pediatric clientele and experience with an adult clientele considered an asset;
  • Basic knowledge of the organization, the services provided and the operation of an orthoptic clinic considered an asset;
  • Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize the tasks to be performed;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Interpersonal skills that foster a welcoming climate, client care and effective communication;
  • Leadership, sound judgment, initiative and creativity, ability to adapt to change, communication skills, and positive attitude (personal qualities must be proven);
  • Good knowledge of and ability to use computer tools and office automation applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Meditech, Outlook);
  • Ability to work with a pediatric clientele;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Physical ability to perform assigned duties;
  • Good previous work history (performance and attendance);
  • Adherence to professional ethics principles, to the Network management philosophy and organizational values;
  • Compliance with the rules of confidentiality established by the Vitalité Health Network.
