Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Program Assistant to join the Assisted Dying Program team in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Program Assistant with VCH, you will:

  • Administratively support the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) program.
  • Support timely and accurate filing of Ministry of Health-related documents for MAiD, verify and process referrals, receive phone calls, take messages, greet and direct clients and schedule confirms client appointments.
  • Provide administrative support to assessors and providers who travel outside of urban sites, process mileage claims and documentation related to travel and training assistance for physicians and NP.
  • Provide transcription services and word process a variety of documents such as wait lists, minutes of meetings and routine correspondence.
  • Perform data entry functions using relevant computerized systems such as PARIS, collate/generate statistical information, assemble files and charts, maintain program supplies.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12, graduation from an Office Administration program plus two (2) years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of the training and experience,
  • Familiarity with Profile EMR, CERNER and PARIS preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to keyboard 5,000 keystrokes per hour.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with others.
  • Ability to be sensitive, tactful and diplomatic with clients and the public.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, active listening, and compassion when engaging with clients and families.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Basic computer literacy to operate a computer client care information system (PARIS), word processing, spreadsheet and internet/email software.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with coworkers, clients and staff from other agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to anticipate potential problems/conflicts and ability to take corrective action.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
