With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking full-time Planner, Accommodation and Spatial Analysis within the Planning & Development department.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Reporting to and under the direction of the Manager of Planning and Accountability, the responsibilities of this job include leading accommodation processes, the preparation of reports, studies, and statistical surveys related to urban, educational and accommodation planning.

  • Analyze socio-demographic trends and Roman Catholic population data to forecast future student enrolment and inform long-term planning
  • Research, interpret, and synthesize data to assess impacts on school accommodation, site requirements, safety considerations, and temporary accommodation needs
  • Lead and coordinate boundary reviews, accommodation reviews, and school/childcare relocations related to Capital and Renewal projects
  • Provide input to the Environmental Support Services staff in the assessment of accommodation needs, consolidation of spaces and solutions; visiting school sites as required
  • Develop multi-media materials (charts, maps, tables, reports) for presentations, decision-making, and Ministry funding submissions
  • Maintain and manage data systems, CADD/floorplans, school profiles, and Long-Term Accommodation Plan materials to ensure accuracy and accessibility
  • Respond to information requests from stakeholders and participate in public or community meetings as required
  • Review and understand enrolment projections and development proposals to assess their impact on staffing, budgeting, capital planning, program requirements, and student accommodation
  • Provide coaching, training, and ongoing feedback to support staff development and improve efficiency
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree from a recognized university or college in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of working experience in a school board, municipal government or related field
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of statistical reporting
  • Familiarity with the geography of the City of Toronto and knowledge of municipal and school systems in Ontario
  • Excellent analytical, planning, decision making and leadership/supervisory skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills in EXCEL, all other MS Office Applications and GIS software (ArcMap, ArcServer, Web Mapping applications)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCADD and GIS software is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new computer software (e.g. SPS)
  • Required to travel within the Greater Toronto Area (eligibility for mileage reimbursement)
  • Ability to work outside regular office hours when required
