Enabling Healthcare Across Networks of Central East (ENHANCE) Ontario (also referred to here as “EO”) is a not-for-profit corporate entity which will provide centralized IT services to its seven (7) member hospitals (Campbellford Memorial Hospital, Haliburton Highlands Health Services, Lakeridge health, Northumberland Hills Hospital, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Ross Memorial Hospital, and Scarborough Health Network) to manage and operate a set of shared digital assets. This will enable its 7 member hospitals across 14 sites to deliver high quality and safe patient care using the shared Epic Clinical Information System (“CIS”) to over 1.5 million patients residing in both rural and urban communities located in the Central East region of Ontario.

Job Description:

Position Overview

The Technical Specialist is responsible for the design, development, and support of healthcare system interfaces and integrations. This role focuses on building, updating, and maintaining data exchange solutions using the Cloverleaf interface engine in conjunction with Epic Bridges and third-party applications. The Specialist will play a key role in ensuring seamless, reliable data flow across clinical and administrative systems to support patient care and organizational needs. Reporting to the Interface and Third-Party Application Manager, the Technical Specialist collaborates closely with Epic support teams, infrastructure teams, and subject matter experts (SMEs) from various applications to deliver robust integration solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Interface Development: Design, configure, and implement integration solutions using Cloverleaf, Epic Bridges, and other healthcare integration tools.
  • System Monitoring: Monitor, maintain, and support production interfaces to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve integration issues during both production operations and testing activities.
  • Change Coordination: Collaborate with infrastructure and technical teams to plan, schedule, and coordinate system or network changes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with application teams, SMEs, and internal/external stakeholders to align integration solutions with business and clinical needs.
  • Performance Optimization: Proactively analyze and implement solutions to improve interface efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, workflows, and interface specifications for ongoing support and knowledge transfer.
  • Testing & Validation: Participate in integration testing, validation, and go-live support for new or upgraded applications.
  • Design Participation: Contribute to clinical and technical design sessions by providing interface expertise and recommendations.
  • On-Call Support: Participate in a rotational on-call schedule to provide timely support for urgent issues.
  • Compliance: Ensure all integration work adheres to organizational privacy, security, and data governance standards.
Requirements:
  • Education: University degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in interface design, development, or management, with a strong understanding of HL7 standards.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Hands-on experience with interface engines; Cloverleaf preferred.
    • Experience with Epic Bridges (certification considered an asset).
    • Knowledge of EMRs and how data is exchanged between healthcare applications.
    • Familiarity with hospital network/system architecture and TCP/IP protocols.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Project, and SharePoint (or similar tools).
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and debugging skills with the ability to identify root causes and determine next steps.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to coordinate activities across multiple stakeholders and manage competing priorities.
  • Preferred: Experience with HL7/FHIR interfaces, understanding of healthcare workflows, and prior experience in a hospital IT environment.
