One of Canada's Top 10 Research Hospitals, Sunnybrook Research Institute is developing innovations in care for the more than 1.3 million patients the hospital cares for annually. Sunnybrook Research Institute is the research enterprise of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Research spans three Toronto-based campuses, eight programs and three scientific platforms.
Dr. Mubareka is a Medical Microbiologist and Infectious Disease physician with an appointed faculty position in the Department of Temerty Medicine at the University of Toronto. As a clinician scientist with laboratories in both locations, her research focuses on studying influenza and zoonotic viruses through the Emerging Wildlife Pathogens Initiative (Wild-Epi).
Description of the Role
We are seeking a full time project coordinator to join Dr. Samira Mubareka’s laboratory for a 6-month term with the possibility of extension. This role is a hybrid position: offering remote work 3-4 days per week, and required on-site work at both laboratory locations 1-2 days a week. On-site work will be divided between the Sunnybrook Research Institute and the University of Toronto St. George campus.
This position will primarily offer practical support and administrative assistance for a diverse range of ongoing projects, which apply a One Health approach to investigate various aspects of the human- animal-environment interface. The chosen candidate may also be required to lead certain study aspects like participant recruitment, data analysis, and manuscript preparation for current studies exploring avian influenza and mpox.
Summary of Duties:
• Monitor budgets, invoices, and expenses to ensure financial accuracy and compliance
• Coordinate schedules, meetings, resources, & deliverables across cross-functional teams
• Track several projects progress and update timelines, milestones, and task lists
• Manage REB/AUP submissions & scientific material/collaboration agreements at both sites
• Identify potential project risks or delays and assist in developing mitigation strategies.
• Communicate regularly with stakeholders to provide updates and address issues or risks.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
• Perform literature reviews and draft manuscripts to support ongoing research
• Perform data collection, data analysis, and present results in monthly meetings
• Answer participant inquiries and communicate study findings with involved participants
• Assist in laboratory experiments (eg: PCR, ELISA, Western blot, animal handling) if needed
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of Master’s degree in a Health or Biological Science discipline
- 2-3 years experience coordinating clinical & academic studies with experimental procedures Previous wet lab experience (e.g. pipetting, PCR, cell culture
- Previous experience balancing budgets, invoices, & managing expenses
- Knowledgeable insight into material data transfer contracts & collaboration agreements Experience using research computer programs and software (eg: REDCap, Zotero, R, Excel) Applied research experience with human participants
- Practical knowledge regarding REB and AUP protocol submissions, renewals, and closures Experience with event planning and/or project organization and delivery
- Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills excellent Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team settings
