The Senior Manager, Institutional Business Development & Client Relationships will be accountable to expand SLGI's footprint in the group advisory market (Corporate Accounts) servicing existing relationship and building new ones. This position is designated to be the primary point of contact for group advisors and their clients, which will include supporting, educating and adding value to advisory relationships. This will be undertaken by collaborating with GRS Client Relationship Executives, Regional Directors of Business Development and Investment Executive Specialists located in Ontario.
The Senior Manager, Corporate Accounts and Business Development will also act as investment solutions subject matter expert to support business development initiatives and some key strategic initiatives.
The role is located in Toronto and will report directly to the Director, Institutional Business Development & Client Relationships for Central Canada.
What will you do?
Business Development and Client Relationships (70%)
- Support the growing group advisor market - Ontario in the promotion and education of the SLGI products, the maintenance of good relationships with these advisors and Client servicing (including meetings with group advisors and clients)
- Create sales opportunities by working with group plan advisors and various Sunlife partners (GRS)
- Expand the group advisory clientele, identifying and meeting prospects that are not currently doing business with SLGI
- Meet and exceed annual sales target for the Ontario region
- Meet at least annually with key group advisors in the territory
- Organize events with group plan advisors, clients and our internal GRS colleagues to promote SLGI and its investment solutions
Subject Matter Expert (20%)
- Manage, coordinate and provide subject matter expertise throughout Request for Proposal (RFP), Request for Information (RFI), and Manager Research processes, working in collaboration with SLGI Institutional Sales Support Team to obtain and maintain strong ratings from advisory and consulting firms
Business planning and support (10%)
- Help build and implement annuals strategic and tactical plans to support sales targets and client retention for the Ontario group advisory market.
- Run with established coverage model for Ontario group plan advisor and manage advisor focused events
- Support and act as project manager on Institutional Business strategic, special, and marketing/product/investments initiatives
- Support Business intelligence (BI) and data analysis working with the Product team
What do you need to succeed?
- 6 - 8 years of experience with a proven record in Business Development and Client Relationship management
- 3+ years of experience in the group advisory space
- University Degree or related education
- Equivalent work experience in the financial services industry
- Knowledge of investment products and services, and a strong understanding of the pension industry and fundamentals of capital markets
- Strong influencing skills with business partners
- Ability to analyze / interpret / communicate investment figures and analysis
- Familiar with investment and sales software applications such as eVestment, Salesforce, etc.
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve client concerns quickly and effectively
- Highly motivated, self-starter with strong business acumen
- Positive attitude, interpersonal savvy, high energy and team player
- May require other licenses to sell into certain markets, as required by the industry
Preferred Skills
- CFA and/or CFP and/or ASA designation is an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
