Job Description:

*** This is a 14-month fixed term role ***

As Manager, Corporate Communications, you’ll play a critical role in shaping how Sun Life communicates its most important corporate priorities. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications, you’ll lead integrated internal and external communications for our Corporate Office functions, working closely with senior leaders and the broader enterprise communications team to deliver clear, confident and measurable storytelling that drives understanding and engagement.

This role is ideal for a strategic, creative communicator who thrives on translating complex subject matter into compelling narratives and enjoys partnering with leaders on high‑impact initiatives.

What will you do?

  • Lead integrated communications strategies supporting Finance, Legal, Government Affairs & Public Policy, Compliance, Risk, Actuarial, ALM, and Internal Audit business partners

  • Manage and execute internal and external communications plans - including proactive media relations, social media and external profile building

  • Create and deliver high‑quality content across formats, including executive presentations, speeches, briefing materials, web and social content, and visual or video assets

  • Partner with and counsel senior leaders on communications approaches for business priorities, projects and events, including town halls and enterprise initiatives

  • Identify key media opportunities and generate proactive and timely pitching ideas

  • Pitch news media in print, broadcast, radio, trades, social media outlets

  • Support special projects and change initiatives, including organizational changes and corporate announcements

  • Establish clear communications objectives and metrics, tracking performance and using insights to continuously improve effectiveness

What do you need to succeed?

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in communications, public relations or a related field

  • Post-secondary education in related field (communications, journalism, public relations)

  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail

  • Proven ability to translate complex topics into clear, engaging and visually compelling executive‑level materials, including PowerPoint presentations

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to influence and negotiate with others and interact with and provide advice and counsel to leaders and business partners on communications best practices

  • Highly versed in effective storytelling and experience in developing and managing robust media plans and creative campaigns, with an emphasis on generating earned and owned coverage

  • Strategic thinker who brings sound judgment and a proactive point of view to complex, high‑impact communications challenges

  • Excellent project and time management skills, paired with a collaborative, self‑starter mindset and the confidence to challenge conventional thinking and deliver results

  • Experience in tracking and analyzing effectiveness of communications campaigns and making recommendations to enhance current activities

  • Flexibility to work on communications activities outside of regular business hours on occasion

Assets:

  • Familiarity with content management systems, media monitoring tools, analytics or HTML

  • Crisis communications experience

  • Understanding of Corporate Office functions including Finance, Legal, Government Affairs & Public Policy, Compliance, Risk, Actuarial, ALM, and Internal Audit

  • Previous financial services, insurance or pension industry experience

  • Experience working for a public company and/or supporting executive communications

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
