Sr. Project Manager with Mainframe expertise to manage the delivery of large-scale projects involving legacy systems modernization, infrastructure upgrades, and application migrations for our banking client


Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid) - 1 to 2 days in office

Duration: 12 Months


Hours: 37.5 hours /week


Summary


We are seeking a seasoned Senior Project Manager with expertise in mainframe environments to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives. This role is responsible for managing the delivery of large-scale projects involving legacy systems modernization, infrastructure upgrades, and application migrations. The ideal candidate brings deep experience managing projects in mainframe environments (z/OS, COBOL, DB2, CICS) and has demonstrated success working across engineering, platform, and operations teams within a regulated financial services environment. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, stakeholder management, and financial oversight capabilities.


Key Responsibilities:


Project Leadership:

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of mainframe-related projects, ensuring alignment with business goals and IT strategy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, application development, QA, and business stakeholders.
  • Manage vendor relationships and third-party service providers involved in mainframe operations or modernization.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.
  • Monitor actuals vs. budget, identify variances, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure cost control and resource optimization throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide financial updates to senior leadership and contribute to portfolio-level financial planning.

Risk & Compliance:

  • Identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues, and ensure project milestones are met.
  • Ensure compliance with audit, and security standards.

Reporting & Communication:

  • Provide regular status updates to executive sponsors and governance committees.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project delivery methodologies and practices.


Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of project management experience, with at least 3 years focused on mainframe systems.
  • Strong understanding of mainframe technologies
  • PMP or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with Waterfall methodologies.
