Sr. Platform Technical Lead (Credit Cards / NARP Platforms) for our tier1 banking client

Duration: 6 Months (2 year engagement)

Location: Toronto, Hybrid (2x/week)

Overview:

The Platform Technical Lead will support the North American Retail Payments (NARP) Credit Cards platform, which integrates BMO’s internal ecosystem with multiple external vendors (TSYS/FIS, G&D, Simcor, Mastercard, etc.).

This individual acts as the technical SME for credit‑card platform changes, vendor integrations, batch/API/MQ data flows, and all downstream/upstream impacts. They work across business, technology, vendors, and project teams to design, assess, and deliver complex platform changes, while translating technical impacts into business‑friendly language.

This is not a developer role, but the individual must have strong technical depth, previous dev/engineering experience, or equivalent hands‑on platform knowledge to lead technical conversations and investigations.

Because TSYS expertise is extremely niche, candidates must have either:

  • Direct TSYS/TS2/TLP experience (ideal), or
  • Experience on a comparable credit‑card processing platform (FIS, First Data, Total Systems, etc.) with proven understanding of how cards products, lifecycle events, and payments function end‑to‑end.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical owner for changes impacting the NARP credit‑card ecosystem (TSYS and all related vendors).
  • Lead technical assessments, intake reviews, solution discussions, and feasibility analysis for all initiatives assigned.
  • Translate complex system impacts into business‑consumable insights for partners and leadership.
  • Act as the point person for technical activities on vendor‑driven enhancements, product launches, integrations, or new services.
  • Lead assessment and technical coordination for TSYS/TS2, TLP, Quick Remit, G&D (card manufacturing), Simcor (statements), Mastercard connectivity, and other vendor systems.
  • Own understanding of real‑time, batch, MQ, and API data exchanges and ensure proper usage, efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Analyze request/response payloads, trace issues end‑to‑end, and validate integration logic.
  • Drive implementation activities in lower environments and production, ensuring change records and SDLC documentation are accurate and complete.
  • Perform data mapping (SES, vendor payloads, batch file mappings) and validate downstream impacts.
  • Participate in solution design reviews; provide recommendations and sign‑off on platform components.
  • Act as technical SME for QA, E2E, and UAT teams; ensure testability of requirements and data readiness.
  • Review and validate testing strategies, scenarios, and expected results.
  • Ensure development teams complete sufficient unit testing before integrated testing.

Must Haves:

  • Because TSYS expertise is extremely niche, candidates must have either:
  • Direct TSYS/TS2/TLP experience (ideal), or
  • Experience on a comparable credit‑card processing platform (FIS, First Data, Total Systems, etc.) with proven understanding of how cards products, lifecycle events, and payments function end‑to‑end.
  • Strong practical understanding of batch jobs, MQ messaging, APIs, and real‑time data flows.
  • Ability to analyze request/response payloads, map data, trace issues, and explain impacts.
  • Not expected to code, but must have previous hands‑on experience (development, engineering, data integration, or equivalent).

Nice to have:

  • Experience with TSYS for both consumer and commercial portfolios.
  • Knowledge of client's platforms and infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with vendor ecosystem (Simcor, G&D, Mastercard, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of credit‑card product rules, billing cycles, payments, disputes, interest calculations, etc.
  • Experience working in banking environments with highly complex downstream integrations.
