Job Title: Sr Cloud Engineer

12-month contract;

Hybrid position (2-3 days Work from Office per week based in Toronto 1 York St office);




ROLE SUMMARY


As the successful candidate, you will lead the development and maintenance of AWS and Snowflake-based cloud infrastructure and applications supporting Data & Analytics, Investment, and Client Solutions. You will collaborate with SLC’s Cloud Engineering team to shape engineering practices, advance foundational data capabilities using cloud technologies, and deliver comprehensive solutions aligned with business objectives. This position demands strong technical proficiency, proven leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of industry standards in data and cloud technologies. Ultimately, your contributions will drive best-in-class technology initiatives and capabilities, enabling SLC to achieve impactful business outcomes through the implementation of end-to-end, client-focused use cases.


ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Hands-on development involves guiding the team's technical strategy to ensure it aligns with the vision and goals of Pan-SLC. This includes developing and implementing solutions for SLC’s data platform and data governance platform, as well as applying industry standards across AWS-based services in use.

Evaluate and implement necessary system integrations to drive the SLC’s vision around data-as-product and help the technical teams to drive towards self-serve data practices.

Platform Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in data & cloud engineering, DevOps and analytics technologies.

SunLife inner sourcing: Partnering with SunLife Enterprise teams, drive the needs of SLC by creating a collaborative development approach.

Partner with technical program managers to prioritize work from the backlog for team and deliver technology solutions.

Review the code built by other cross-functional teams to implement high quality coding standards and synergy across the applications being built.

DevOps: Develop effective DevOps practice to improve developer experience and faster time-to-market using IaC for AWS services.



Must Haves


• 7+ years’ experience in data-driven organizations with a focus on end-to-end large-scale initiatives.

• 4+ years hands-on experience building Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) based applications, data platform and pipelines in cloud-native technologies. Deep technical understanding of Data and Analytics paradigms and technologies.

• Experienced with Data warehousing concepts and platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks.

• 3+ years’ experience working in Asset Management or Capital Markets Industry and has deep understanding of the business is a plus.

• Proficient in designing and implementing scalable data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses.

• Solid programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, Scala and SQL.

• Deep understanding of Kubernetes based platforms such as EKS, OpenShift and how scalable applications can be deployed on K8s.

• In-depth knowledge of cloud native technologies, including AWS services like S3, EC2, RDS, Lambda, Glue, Sage maker, Athena and Redshift.

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related technical field.

• Proven understanding of modern Digital & CRM technologies.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate, negotiate, influence, and arbitrate competing priorities within a diverse set of user communities and stakeholders (internal and external).

• Strong decision making, outcome driven, influencing, leading change and communication skills.
