Senior Telecommunications Systems Engineer to support an Operational Radio System (ORS) implementation for a telecommunications client

Our valued telecommunications client is looking for a Senior Telecommunications Systems Engineer to support an Operational Radio System (ORS) implementation!

Initial 1-year contract in Ottawa, ON. Hybrid work environment - on-site work expected 1-2 days/week on-site.7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday.

As the successful candidate, you will be in a client-facing role, responsible for designing, configuring, and implementing complex telecommunications solutions, primarily focused on public safety or critical communications systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of RF networks and Motorola systems, as well as the organizational skills to manage licensing, profiles, procurement, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Gather client requirements, analyze technical options, and develop solution proposals including both technical and financial components
• Lead the design and development of end-to-end telecommunications and RF-based solutions
• Produce technical plans, estimates, and support documents for integration and implementation
• Develop and execute test plans for new system solutions; perform testing and document outcomes
• Prepare configuration files and documentation for operational deployment; transfer finalized configs to operations teams
• Support the operational integration of new solutions, ensuring seamless transition from design to deployment
• Coordinate implementation activities, managing timelines and ensuring deliverables align with client expectations
• Track and follow up on project components to ensure adherence to technical and contractual terms
• Recommend infrastructure upgrades or optimizations to maintain system performance and reliability
• Generate detailed technical reports and documentation for studies, audits, and internal reference
• Collaborate with solution architects to help define future-state technologies and strategic direction
• Take ownership of complex technical issues, coordinating resolution efforts as needed
• Manage administrative elements including radio licensing, user profile configuration, procurement tracking, and system documentation

Must-Have Skills

• 5+ years of RF / telecommunications experience, including system design, configuration, and testing
• 3+ years of Motorola radio systems experience (e.g., P25, Astro, SmartZone)
• Strong clerical/organizational skills, including:
• License and profile management
• Procurement coordination
• Technical documentation

Nice to Haves:

• Demonstrated experience integrating and supporting operational radio system (ORS) implementations
• Familiarity with public safety communications infrastructure
• Background working with dispatch systems, repeaters, or network backhaul (IP/microwave)
• Excellent communication skills in both English and French
