Our client is seeking a Senior Project Manager specializing in Data and AI projects with experience working in public sector or leading mandated and legislated projects. (660)

Please note this is a hybrid position requiring residency in Alberta with regular in-person meetings in Edmonton.

Must Haves:

  • 8+ years working as a Project Manager on a large complex custom software application development project (where the software is developed in house for that specific organization) within complex regulated enterprise or public sector environment
  • defining project scope and goals in collaboration with business stakeholders.
  • developing project deliverables including project charters, business cases, briefing notes, status reports, risk logs and project closures.
  • managing custom application development projects with at least 5 team members.
  • managing data and AI development, delivery and support projects/teams with at least 5 team members.
  • managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • successfully implementing IT solutions in an environment with project resources from across multiple teams or organizations.

A combination of Additional Experience that is Required:

  • 4+ years conducting, facilitating and interpreting impact and risk assessments across multiple scenarios.
  • 4+ years creating and managing project forecast and actual budgets.
  • 7+ years developing and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships across the organization, including executive level.
  • 2+ years making decisions and recommendations on highly technical or complex issues without formal guidelines or precedents and exercises resourcefulness and ingenuity
  • 3+ years working in or for the public sector.
  • 4+ years working with Mandated and Legislated Projects within short timelines.
  • 5+ years leading project governance, change management and communication activities.
  • 4+ years working with technical teams on complex IMT projects.


About the role:


The primary assignment for this role will be developing our practice around Application Support and delivering on commitments in the Application Support, Data and AI space.

The resource will be assigned to various projects including Justice Digital - the digital transformation of the Courts, CTS Transformation - the restructure and building of the IT delivery organization including process, procedure, capabilities, etc. The resource will be responsible for the following tasks/activities:


• Develop and manage all aspects of project and program engagement from planning, external vendor relationships, communications, resources, budget, change, risks and issues in collaboration with the senior leadership team and internal stakeholders;

• Coordinate with stakeholders and schedule meetings.

• Prepare briefing notes, meeting minutes, and other documents;

• Prepare presentations for engagement with stakeholders, steering committees, project groups and other stakeholders;

• Support team members in the analysis of industry engagement surveys;

• Manage tasks and action items and follow up and escalate as required;

• Provide support by bridging communication between external stakeholders, the Alberta Courts, Technology and Innovation teams, etc.;

• Coordinate approvals and sign-offs;

• Maintain engagement, meeting, and opportunity trackers;

• Respond to stakeholder requests;

• Complete documentation for decision making processes;

• Provide direction to cross functional team(s) to ensure successful delivery of product(s);

• Track and monitor scope and timelines for delivery of data product(s); and

• Analyze and report on progress. Communicate project status and all relevant information to stakeholders.

Duties:

Responsible for the coordination and implementation of various Courts related technology projects. Oversees all aspects of the projects. Builds an effective operating environment, defines project objectives, scope, and guiding principles, conducts comprehensive analysis of the projects, monitors and summarizes progress of the project. Builds and maintains working relationships with Courts stakeholders, project vendors, and departments involved in the project. Prepares reports for management regarding status of project.

For this role, a deep understanding of both the application support space as well as Data and AI delivery is required.

• Compile project charters and business/project plans with clear objectives and expected project outcomes to support activities, including the most suitable approach to be used in the development of each deliverable and work product, to ensure business objectives and data integrity are achieved.

• Manage project(s) that will document business requirements, design and deliver IT solutions that are compliant with and contribute to the organization’s enterprise architecture.

• Assist with the development of recommendations including providing details of resource requirements, dependencies, interdependencies, policy implications pertaining to internal/external influences and the methodology to be applied.

• Produce and package deliverables for presentation to various internal support teams, steering committee, and other project stakeholders.

• Manage multiple tasks, project resources and project governance.

• Conduct consultations with key internal Courts stakeholders and Ministry of Justice stakeholders

• Work with project vendors to ensure that effective project communication exists through the duration of the project including escalation of risks as required.

• Take responsibility for ongoing client satisfaction - manage peer-level client relationships and overcome hurdles to ensure win-win solutions.

• Coordinate with leadership to develop a well-defined project plans that clearly states the project’s objectives, scope, assumptions, timeline, resource requirements, risks, benefits and budget.

• Work with project sponsors and the project management office to develop a project organization structure with clearly defined roles and responsibilities for all stakeholders.

• Document and report project status against established objectives, milestones, budget and resources and facilitate tracking and closure of issues and risks.

• Develop project schedule plans and strategies, estimate resource requirements, develop and monitor work plans and take corrective action for completion of project tasks.

• Provide guidance to project resources in establishing work priorities and prompt delivery of project tasks.

• Develop, as required, related requirements documentation.

• In collaboration with project sponsors, assess whether the project achieved stated outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement for future similar projects.

• Provide leadership and assistance to project teams that require change management and communication support.

• Engage and establish positive working relationships with subject matter representatives across the Courts and Court Technology Services to ensure that project decisions, directions and recommendations align and consider broader Court directions;

• Provide input and/or develop Chief, Minister/Deputy Minister/Assistant Deputy Minister-level briefings, as required;

• Work within the standards defined by the project management office and in the absence of standards work with the project management office to define new standards.

• Define protocols and practices related to application support, data delivery and AI including architecture, process and procedures, resource management, etc.
