Senior Project Manager - SAP S4 Finance Integration for a client in the insurance industry
Duration: 12 Months (Extensions likely, multi-year initiative)
Location: Toronto or Winnipeg (Hybrid, 3x week)
Overview:
Our Insurance client is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead the Finance Integration as part of an SAP S4 HANA Upgrade Program. This techno-functional role involves overseeing the integration between SAP S/4HANA and legacy systems, with a focus on finance-related integrations. The PM will ensure seamless data flow between systems while coordinating with multiple work package teams and building out the integration team as the project scales.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning and Management:
- Develop comprehensive integration project plans within a waterfall framework incorporating agile sprints.
- Coordinate with other work package PMs to ensure alignment and dependencies are managed.
- Monitor project progress using SmartSheet, JIRA, and Clarity for status reporting, time management, and cost tracking.
- Utilize SharePoint as central repository for project documentation.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Communicate proactively with program, internal, and external stakeholders with emphasis on functional requirements.
- Collaborate with the solution architecture team for technical design decisions.
- Work closely with the Organizational Change Management team for knowledge transfer activities.
- Ensure integration solutions align with business objectives and insurance operations.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and manage integration-specific risks including data quality, system dependencies, and timing conflicts.
- Develop mitigation plans for real-time vs batch processing scenarios.
- Ensure API management and event-driven architecture considerations are addressed.
- Deliver integrations on-time, within scope, and within budget.
- Team Leadership:
- Build out the integration team as the work package ramps up.
- Lead and motivate a mixed team of functional and technical resources.
- Provide coaching and guidance on insurance-specific data flows and processes.
- Functional Expertise:
- Apply deep functional knowledge of insurance operations including premium collections, claims processing, and commission calculations.
- Ensure integration solutions comply with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Bridge the gap between business requirements and technical implementation.
Must Haves:
- 6+ years of proven experience as a Project Manager in SAP integration projects.
- Strong functional expertise in SAP Finance modules and insurance industry processes.
- Experience managing integration projects between SAP and legacy systems.
- Background in financial services with understanding of regulatory compliance (IFRS 17 or similar).
- Excellent project management skills with experience in hybrid waterfall/agile methodologies.
- Strong functional knowledge of insurance data flows and financial processes.
- Understanding of integration patterns including real-time, batch, API management, and event-driven architectures.
- Proficiency with project management tools: SmartSheet, JIRA, SharePoint, and Clarity.
- Team building and scaling experience.
- PMP and/or PRINCE2, similar project management certification is preferred.
Nice to Have:
- Technical knowledge of SAP integration technologies (considered nice to have as solution architecture team provides technical expertise).
- Experience with private cloud deployments.
- Previous experience with SAP S/4HANA Finance transformation projects.
- Knowledge of SAP BTP or other integration platforms.
